Acceptance is said to be the opposite of judgement. It’s easy to understand this concept if you envision being gifted a compliment. How often when we’re complimented do we deflect or disregard the comment; brush it off or basically do anything other than say, “Thank you” and accept it.

At every age, the reason we struggle with accepting a compliment is because we have slipped into judging the words in our heads while questioning (or doubting) the other being who has complimented us.

Acceptance of a compliment, acceptance of anything for what it is, as well as accepting anyone for who they are, are acts of grace.

Next time you’re complimented, tell those voices inside your head that it’s time to be quiet down.

Listen and say, “Thank you.” To do otherwise is really a subtle insult to another. Accept compliments with grace.
