What is it that makes asking so difficult? Do we feel disadvantaged, incapable, less than or weak? If so, there’s some faulty thinking that requires realignment.

A truism of life is if we don’t ask, we don’t get.  Life is designed in such a way that asking is an integral part of all of our lives. Sometimes we’re the asker and other times the answerer.  Life is never always one way or the other.

Too often we desire, long for, crave and maybe suffer, when all we needed to do was speak up and ask whatever we felt needed asking. While there may be nothing more difficult than asking, we progress much faster in life when we accept the reality that asking is OK.

Asking becomes easier when we learn that every request must be asked without a concrete “end” or expectation set in our minds. The Universe, God and the godliness in others gets to decide what is within their capabilities to give when called upon.

Here’s a story: When I first moved to NYC, I worked in the automobile business. I did a fantastic job “selling” the cars—because I really like cars & believed in the line. But my customers often left “car-less” because I was afraid to “ask.” Honest truth: How I finally got used to “asking” was when we’d sit down at my desk to go over details, I’d drop my pen and while my eyes were focused on looking for it on the floor, I’d ask: “So, are you ready to buy this car?”  My closing ratio went up exponentially & so did my confidence! Plenty said no…but enough said yes that I was able to bank enough money to start a lifelong career of self-employment. Eventually I learned to be more direct.

It’s ok to ask. We may get a no…but then again…we may get a yes or more information to move our lives forward. What can you ask for today?
