I’m often asked: “What do you read?” My answer: “Everything!” I recently finished Keith Richard’s book, “Life”, then “The Art of Living” by Epictetus (written about 1,863 years ago and interpreted by Sharon Lebell) – while also reading “Atlas Shrugged” by Ayn Rand, followed by her other tome, “The Fountainhead.”  I like to mix it up with biographies & philosophy. Because I love reading philosophy, people try to corner me into answering: “What philosophy do you ascribe to? What forms your beliefs?” My answer is: “Everything!” I like a bit of this and a bit of that! Considering this, it is said, “The more things change, the more they stay the same.” I think about that a lot. So besides reading everything I can, whenever I meet someone who has lived longer than I have—I feel compelled to ask them about their reflections on life & the world. Invariably they all seem to share some version of that quoted line, (The more things change, the more they stay the same).  This is one of the reasons I like writings by Ayn Rand. From “Atlas Shrugged” to “The Fountainhead” to “The Virtue of Selfishness” — all of which I’ve read 3-7 times each —Rand never fails to make me think more deeply about humanity with each reading.  And having my thoughts triggered is really all I ask from any writer. Because Rand makes me think, I am intrigued by her philosophy. I’ve given away her books as gifts, more times than I can remember, because, I can’t share my copies as I have underlined & folded far too many pages, so sharing my copies would make me feel too vulnerable if those very pages were in the hands of another & my innermost thoughts were thus exposed. In conclusion: As I believe life is always sending me messages in strange yet wondrous ways— yesterday I walked into a thrift shop and one book stood out on the shelf: ANTHEM by Ayn Rand. Making it even more exciting, is that this particular version is from the first run paperback from 1946! I am incredibly excited to begin reading it… starting now! Thanks for sharing your time reading what I write! Love, Dian aka @SilverDisobedience 💝
