Trust or lack of it largely comes from our sense of self. Our trust of others is usually strong if we feel confident regarding our own capabilities. Contrarily, lack of trust develops when for whatever reasons doubts arise as to who we are and what our worth is within the relationship.
We trust when actions align with words. When we are trusting, in any situation, we are showing love and respect for another.
Most of us don’t trust easily. We want to be in love, yet we’re afraid to trust. The two walk hand and hand.
Without trust, there is no love. Love is really deep trust.
Ernest Hemmingway summed up trust saying: “The best way to find out if you can trust somebody is to trust them.” Scary prospect. But still, it’s really the only way we’ll ever know who’s trustable…and how deeply we can experience love.
People (and we all fit in that category) disappoint. But today, we can only love by choosing to resolve regrets and release fears. If we can’t find it within ourselves to trust someone with whom we are in an important relationship, it’s time to try again or be honest. We must own up to our limitations and speak up about our inability to trust. We cannot betray ourselves.
While hurts can run deep, choose to live with the full belief that everything is possible. Go forth with trust. As Anton Chekhov said, “You must trust and believe in people or life becomes impossible.” Live for possibility.
