Patience running low is an expensive situation. It’s costs include annoyance, anxiety, agitation, haste, stress, decisions we regret, snappy words we wish we never said and accidents. ✨ Impatience runs high this time of year, as do its costs on our relationships, presently and in the future. Harsh responses. Passing that slow car in front of us, risking an accident and possibly impacting lives forever. Going into debt when perhaps we could have saved a little longer or reconsidered the purchase. ✨ There are reasons patience is considered a virtue. Sometimes, we underestimate the value of slowing down, taking our time, considering carefully, thinking and maybe even waiting or stopping altogether—whenever it is necessary to get our perspectives back in balance. ✨ The last couple of years  during the holidays my impatience resulted in concussions: I tripped on the street, face-planted and needed surgery and the next year I got wacked in the head by a ceiling fan while stringing lights. Both times, I was having a deep discussion in my head—and not paying attention to my surroundings. ✨ When patience is running low, when we’re rushing and on edge, it’s time to stop, breathe, have a tea, maybe even ask for help— and consider the cost of rushing, over-thinking, worrying, searching, demanding, insisting and pushing. Don’t wait for life to smack you in the head. Practice patience…which is a trait of the wise.
