There’s a big difference between how we might be feeling and our state of being. Because a lot of you have asked me to address anxiety, let’s use anxiety as an example to explain. ✨“I am feeling anxiety” and “I’m anxious” are not the same statement. ✨One allows for the possibility that we are feeling something that will pass.  The other is kind of like a judgement or label as to who we are, ie: I’m an anxious person or I’m someone filled with anxiety.✨But it goes deeper. When we switch to thinking about the “feeling” of anxiety, or any other emotion that we might “feel” we start looking for “reasons for it.”  ✨Neither labeling ourselves as anxious beings, nor looking for reasons triggering anxiety are very beneficial to the situation. ✨How about trying to observe what’s happening when we feel anxious because if we’re prone to feeling anxiety, pretty much anything can trigger it. ✨ Observing is:  I’m feeling sensations of anxiousness.  My stomach feels uncomfortable. I feel a tightness in my chest.  My thoughts and emotions are swirling. Fill in the blank…✨Stopping and identifying these observations helps us to separate us from the emotional state.  We are not our emotions. Our emotions—the entire range of them from the ones we love to the ones we fear—are not us. They are fleeting thoughts and sensations that can be identified and acknowledged.  ✨By learning to see our emotional states without believing we are our emotional states, we can move through, relax, chill and get on with the good stuff that is happening in the moment as we get ourselves into gear with beneficial choices and actions.
