Did you know that sugar is present in countless foods…but without knowing the ‘code’ words you might not be aware of it, no matter how many labels you read?

Obviously if a label says ‘sugar’ that’s obvious.  But all of the following ingredients in this list below are also sugar. So, if you are consuming too many processed foods with these ingredients, you are unknowingly consuming too many empty carbohydrate calories, which are stored as fat.  Additionally, excess processed sugar is the culprit hiding behind risk of obesity, diabetes and heart disease. It can impact our immune systems, create chromium deficiencies, cause tooth decay and…accelerate aging!

When perusing a product label, check to see if any of these ingredients are present. AND— remember labels start with the main ingredients and work their way down to lower amounts.

Here goes, these are all sugars: Agave, Brown Rice Syrup, Cane Syrup, Corn Starch, Corn Syrup, Dextrose, Fructose, Golden Syrup, High-Fructose Corn Syrup, Honey Invert Sugar, Jaggery, Lactose, Maple Syrup, Milk, Molasses, Pulled Sugar, Rock Sugar, Sorghum, Sucrose and Treacle.

This is not about skipping sugar altogether.  Rather— it’s about being aware of where it may be hidden and staying alert to quantities consumed so that we can keep ourselves as healthy as possible for the long haul.
