Have you ever noticed that sometimes the standards we hold ourselves to are different than what we might accept from others? Vice versa happens too, as in we might not tolerate something from another, yet we give ourselves latitude for the same actions?

For example, why do we encourage other people to take care of themselves when they’re sick…yet act like a martyr when we’re not feeling well?  Or, flipping it, what about when we tell a “white lie” yet being angry at another for something comparable?

When we apply different standards to ourselves or to others, we are maintaining an illusion of separateness. When we believe our feelings are wholly unique from those of others, we reduce our abilities to connect and experience greater possibilities and happiness.
