When life gets tangled up and messy, we need to seek our personal silver lining. It’s an ongoing mental exercise to continually search for the positive when it feels like we’re mired in negativity around us. But, if we can start to change the way we look at people or situations, the things we are looking at may begin to change as well.

Choosing to see the silver lining in any situation or person is a first step to a better outcome under any circumstance.

This is not denial: It is all about learning. Sometimes the easiest way to recognize the positive is to ask yourself, “What is this moment teaching me? I’ve got to be learning something!”

If we’re not looking at the bright side, including giving others the benefit of the doubt…it’s too hard to read any situation accurately. Our circumstances may not be what we’d have chosen if we’d been offered a choice…but this does not mean all aspects of any situation must remain the same (especially our perspective about it!) A bend in the road is not the end of the road unless we fail to make the turns.

As Elvis Presley said: “When things go wrong, don’t go with them.” Seek your own silver lining.
