Silver Disobedience is an attitude not an age. It questions the worshiping & demands of youth that may actually be at the root of much of the depression we’re seeing in teens today. Anyone older knows life gets better once we clear our twenties: Pretty much every aspect, except physical gets better—although our acceptance with our physical nature does improve.
These discussions aim to counterbalance the negativity about aging that creates unnecessary dread of a natural process that has very distinct advantages. Countless comments have expressed how each passing year has helped us grow personally & in our relationships with others. We’ve become more confident because our choices have shown us that whether they were mistakes, or not, we handled the situation & survived. We’re still rocking in every sense of the word!
A constant recurring theme on this blog is freedom! If we could leave a legacy to younger generations, the best would be this: Helping them to understand that the belief that youth is the best time of our lives is flawed. It is a myth because for most of us, it takes experience that comes with age to develop the wonderful sense of freedom from the restraint of the judgements of others.
What a gift this legacy of understanding would be to the world. Collaboration, invention, creativity might all have greater opportunities to flourish. Everyone would be less worried about what others are thinking when stereotypical moulds get broken.
Many have been sharing this blog with their children. When I see this, my heart warms. We all know it’s not always easy to get our kids to listen to us—but words from another can penetrate those walls of insecurity and doubt. Life does not wane, decrease, diminish or shrivel. While our bodies may experience challenges at anytime of life, our spirits can always soar. Every comment on these blogs reaffirms this. Our parades are grand and as gloriously unique as each of us. While yes, some are facing struggles and need to seek help from others, many are expressing personal flourishment.
Today is a good day to embrace that age does not mean we’re old or irrelevant. It really means we’ve experienced more years. What a blessing!
