Need some inspiration to get up, get out and get moving? Rust ruins more tools than overuse. Or to quote Neil Young: It’s better to burn out than it is to rust.  He also wrote: It’s better to burn out than fade away. That line is my person fave.

But today, we’re talking rust. When rusting happens, chemically, oxygen is stealing electrons from iron. Oxygen is getting reduced while iron gets oxidized. The result is rust.

Oxidative stress in our bodies is an imbalance between free radicals in our cells which are produced during normal metabolic processes and the body’s inability to combat or neutralize their harmful effects.

To combat natural physical rusting our diets need to include plenty of antioxidants…more than just coffee and dark chocolate. 😉 Ideally, this includes eating berries and other fruits along with vegetables, fish and nuts along with cinnamon, garlic, turmeric and green tea. Additionally, moderate exercise like walking works wonders to keep joints flexible. Adequate sleep and rest also are also essentials. Then, we want be moderate with alcohol and overeating…and quit smoking, if we do.

Having the energy and stamina to live our lives to the fullest is the goal. Nobody wants rust to make us fade away. At any point, the suggestions just mentioned are helpful. Every change we can make towards healthful conditions is a good change.
