“It is what it is.” I have a bit of disagreement with this primary tenet of Zen philosophy. Whether it’s a coping mechanism or whatever we want to call it… I prefer to always find a way to look at the bright side, disobediently bending this rule a little.

So, for me, when I stumble, fall, things don’t go my way or life seems to be raining…I tell myself that, “It could have been worse.”  I know the reality of “It is what it is.” — But I also know that in a different moment of time, perhaps, just perhaps, “it could have been worse.” By remembering this, I cease lingering at the pity party and get back to celebrating life in far more constructive ways.
