Aging is often accompanied by fears of losing our memory. Silver Disobedience had the opportunity to sit down with Mentalist Jim Karol who went from a Pennsylvania steel worker to becoming one of the most EXTRAORDINARY MINDS in the world!

Karol has appeared on the Tonight Show, the Ellen Show, the Today Show, CNN, Fox News, Howard Stern and numerous other national television and radio programs.

Karol has become a regular speaker at many prestigious places like MIT’s McGovern Institute for Brain Research, the Pentagon, and numerous military bases around the globe. He has performed at the Invictus Games, the Warrior Games and made dozens of visits to Walter Reed Medical Center with the USO, helping wounded warriors with Invisible Wounds.  Karol also helps fellow seniors and ANYONE struggling with memory issues.

Some of Jim’s amazing abilities  include knowing more than 80,000 Zip Codes, thousands of digits of Pi, the Scrabble dictionary, Sports Almanacs, hundreds of Science and Medical Journals and thousands of other facts!

Jim can tell you the day of the week for EVERY DATE, all the way back to 1AD and can memorize a shuffled deck of cards in less than a minute!

The most unbelievable and amazing  thing about Karol’s story is that he barely made it out of high school, (failing his senior year) and didn’t begin working his memory until the age of 50!

Karol’s powerful new book tells his whole story and teaches his transformative program for Sharper Memory, Mental Clarity and Greater Focus, AT ANY AGE!

What is your background?

I’ve been an entertainer for over 35 years.  After losing my job at the steel mill, I took over my wife’s Avon account (because she was 8 months pregnant), I became very successful at it and shortly after, performed my very first show for 1,000 Avon representatives.

What inspires you to create?

Seeing people overcome obstacles that are beyond belief and knowing that ANYTHING is possible with this AMAZING BRAIN that we all have.

And of course, my grandkids.

How has your career influenced your passions (or vice versa)?

My passion for wanting to learn everything I can about the human brain began after my first appearance at Walter Reed Medical Center, which changed my life forever!

What is something that you must do every day (by choice)?

EXERCISE MY BRAIN!

Celebrity Mentalist Jim Karol

What are some things that you would tell your younger self, if you had the opportunity to offer advice retrospectively?

To KEEP A POSITIVE ATTITUDE and have more SELF-ESTEEM!(I was a very shy kid and was bullied a lot).

To EXERCISE (both brain and body) and not wait until the age of 50!

To LIVE CLOSER TO A MAJOR AIRPORT!

If you could be answering these questions from another location, anywhere in the world, where would that be?

That’s a tough one.  There are so  many beautiful places in the world.  Probably a quiet beach in Hawaii.

Who are some role models in your life?

My greatest role model was the Mighty Atom, Joseph Greenstein.  He was an 80 year old SideShow Strongman act at the Allentown Fair who bent 6 inch steel spikes and demonstrated impossible feats of the mind! Another would be Albert Einstein.

What are some common misconceptions about getting older that you’d like to change?

That your MEMORY goes downhill after 50.

AGE ITSELF

I truly believe that almost ANYONE can maintain a high quality of life well beyond 80.  It’s all about having a positive attitude, having fun and surrounding yourself with the right people.

I’m 66 and feel like I’m 36.

What is something you appreciate now that you hadn’t before?

LIFE, it gets better every year!

Spending quality time with my family.

Having good friends!

What’s a lesson you learned within the last year that you’d like to share?

Try to be a little less negative, each and every day.  The more positive I am, the better I feel.

I FOLLOW THESE 4 SIMPLE THINGS  (ESPN)

E for EXERCISE the brain and body

S for proper SLEEP

P for maintain a POSITIVE attitude

N for good NUTRITION

What kinds of relationships are important to your work?

Good, Positive Relationships are EXTREMELY important.  It’s all about connecting and networking.

Socializing is VERY HEALTHY!

What would you like to be doing exactly five years from today? Ten years?

Staying healthy and fit!

Meeting as many people as I possibly can.

Entertaining and Speaking to thousands…

Writing more books and having my own national radio program on Brain Health.
