Today is Memorial Day, the day to honor those men and women who have walked in shoes like these and lost their lives while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Each sacrificed their opportunity to grow old. They, their families and friends, gave and suffered in ways we cannot imagine.

While we may debate the rights (and wrongs) of free speech, let us maintain respect for those who died in the fight to uphold free speech: By listening with open hearts and minds, and speaking kindly when we communicate our differences.

Note: As always, this is not political commentary. There are plenty of other places for that on the Internet. This essay, like all of my essays, is about: Making the world a better place by focusing on what we can each improve upon in ourselves because I believe this is the pathway to peace.
