From the moment we are born we begin to interpret life according to our environment: This includes the humans we interact with as well as the physical environment within which we live. As dependent children we are subject to the moods, capabilities, emotions, strengths and weaknesses of our elders. Moments of confusion, discord, frustration & bitterness along with joy, love & happiness are all constantly being observed, experienced and internalized. Yet, too often also misinterpreted as a reflection of ourselves vs. the struggles of another or general circumstance. Eventually we arrive at adulthood with “recollection baggage,” that is held in our unconscious minds, along with the faulty belief that all of this info is somehow still reliable information in our present lives.

The reality is that the negative lingering baggage is nothing more than “thoughts,” perpetuating images of our imperfections. Their current relevancy? Likely nil.

It is thrilling and worth serious consideration that we can actually practice choosing to change our perceptions. It’s a moment-by-moment choice to exercise this choice. But with steady practice, healing of any hurts can begin. This starts with trying our best to be consciously present within the very moment that we presently exist within. Trying to focus on exactly what is happening in the moment, we can cease marring our days with anger, malice or emotions from the past that remove us from the grace of the moment. We can practice letting the words in our mouths reflect our hearts by choosing forgiveness of ourselves and others and, by believing we are each incomparable one-of-a-kind be-ings worthy of love and joy.

Start reminding yourself every morning from the moment you open your eyes, that the goodness of Life is yours for the taking. Try this for 7-days, repeating as often as necessary, and let me know how you feel.
