Silver Disobedience® began by questioning whether any age could make someone irrelevant, invisible or obsolete. The name was based on a merger between my silver hair + my lingering rebellious punk attitude.

At 57, when I began this (now almost 61!) I was not feeling irrelevant but I sure did feel a sharp pain strike my core when I would hear someone, whether 17 or 70, express that they felt invisible or worse. I was shocked to hear teenagers  “diss” others by declaring them “irrelevant” – which is actually a thinly veiled attempt to feel better about oneself by proposing  “cancellation” of another.

I certainly have had moments — in fact periods — when I questioned my self-worth and value. Yet I recovered when I shifted my focus from myself to the ideas I wanted to contribute to the world and bring to life for others.

I will be the happiest person in the world the day that every person reading this blog understands their relevancy — yet keeps coming back so we can still talk about our humanity. And until that day, I’ll be just as happy because my relevancy comes from my belief that I wake up each day and work. I work on me — which includes: committing to work which strengthens self-esteem & self-respect; improving communication with my family and others; taking care of my health by eating well and staying active; finding ways to help others succeed because nothing makes people feel more relevant than fulfilling their personal definitions of success; and maintaining balance between the many roles I play each day.

You are relevant. You were born a relevant human be-ing. That said, sometimes we all need an attitude adjustment. We need to focus on ourselves in the sense of: How do I fulfill my responsibility to be all that I can be?  I don’t know about you, but when I’m working hard to move myself forward, I have zero time to feel invisible, irrelevant, inconsequential or anything else. Instead? I feel vibrant, vital and more alive than ever in my 61-year-old body that isn’t what it once was but, still has a beating heart & a thinking brain.✨
