There is an expression: “Appearances can be deceiving.” I think many believe this means we must be guarded against others because we are at risk of being deceived by them in some way. But to me, I think the deceiving part is far more personal — and, we need to own the source of the possible deception.
You see, I believe how we interpret the appearances of others is actually at the root of all of our self doubt. So actually — “deceiving appearances” have little to do with others. They are more direct reflections of how we deceive ourselves or maybe even belittle ourselves through our interpretations.
Because of this, my personal goal will always be freedom from my preconceived perceptions and even to some degree some of my current perceptions as well — unless of course they concern safety. I have no idea if I’ll achieve this level of a clear mind. But I do know it can only be attained if I focus on what is within my control because peace and happiness are only possible by being observant and keenly aware of where my attention is placed — as I’m in charge of my attention and where it is directed regarding my thoughts!
So here’s the tip of the day: YOU are in charge of where you place your attention too. Your thoughts are yours and yours alone to water so they grow stronger…or are weeded out.
By practicing observation and putting my attention squarely on what I can do with zero concern about the capabilities of others? Envy is obliterated because others are not me and I am not them. Instead — I’m free because my sole focus is set on moving forward: Clearly seeing what I control and in the process acting accordingly.
