There’s only one way to get done everything that we need to do. We must learn to do less to accomplish more. While this may sound counterintuitive (or lazy), it’s actually an essential strategy for every phase of our lives. Establishing top-down priorities so we can maximize our energy and stay healthy for the long haul is the goal.

To accomplish more by doing less, we need to start writing “Must Do Today” lists. While some of us may already be “listers,” the idea is to refine the process by making sure each task on our list is essential and will have maximum impact. We’ve got to take care of the things that count the most, first. Save the rest for another day when you’re making a new list, or figure out how to delegate tasks to others. Doing this will not only relieve stress; you’ll be surprised that some things you thought you’d have to do will take care of themselves—or maybe they aren’t really necessary.

Doing less but accomplishing more is one of the best ways we can help our mental and physical health, which benefits others in our lives as well. Don’t feel guilty! Ultimately, these daily lists will help to better manage the life that keeps coming at us. Priorities, objectives, specifics, deadlines should be divided into short- and long-range goals. Focus intensely on the moment and reap the future rewards of more time for fun. Do Less, Accomplish More.
