As you know, my Silver Disobedience philosophy says: Life keeps getting better with age. Still, as we age, our skin naturally loses some elasticity and becomes thinner and a bit drier.  Those sunburns over the years (guilty!) maybe along with smoking, inadequate nutrition, lack of exercise and stress plus factors like exposure to environmental pollutants and toxins all contribute to the aging impact. Yet, all said, since I’m a firm believer that it’s better to get older than not — here are five beauty tips and a few products that I’ve tested and think are especially relevant for mature skin.

Moisturize: Mature skin tends to be drier than younger skin, so it’s important to moisturize regularly. Look for a rich, hydrating moisturizer that contains ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and ceramides. We’re big fans of the tested, tried and true SkinCeuticals line.

Use Sunscreen: Protect your skin from further damage by using sunscreen daily. Look for a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. One of our favorites is Supergoop Glowscreen! It gives skin a spectacular dewy glisten while adding SPF 40 protection.

Exfoliate: Exfoliating can help remove dead skin cells and reveal smoother, brighter skin. However, be gentle and don’t overdo it, as mature skin is more delicate. Look for a gentle exfoliant that contains alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta hydroxy acids (BHAs). Shanni Darden’s Retinol Reform is a winner.

Hydrate: Drinking enough water is important for overall health, but it can also help keep your skin hydrated and plump. Aim for at least 8 glasses of water a day. Good old water out of my NYC faucet all day long is my best friend!

Invest in a good eye cream: The skin around your eyes is delicate and prone to wrinkles, so investing in a good eye cream can help hydrate and protect this area. Look for an eye cream that contains ingredients like caffeine, retinol, and hyaluronic acid. Here, I happen to love Clinique’s Even Better Eyes Dark Circle Corrector – not only corrects but smooths out my Krinkles!

So keep smiling! And remember: Eye wrinkes are sexy! 😉
