If I was to sing Karaoke, my song— sung with major attitude —would be: “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)”  I’m sharing this secret because I have a story to tell you.

Yesterday,  I was having an emotional day, not feeling my 100% self. As I sat to wind down, I decided to look at comments, hoping you’d all cheer me up. Not to be disappointed, I found even more than I was looking for in a DM from @BryanParsonsPhotography   I laughed out loud when I saw that he had creatively modified this album cover.

Here’s what Brian could not have known when he took the time to create this: I moved to NYC in the late Fall of 1986. In March of 1987, my friend Jonathan B. introduced me to @JonnyPodell  an entertainment agent who at the time was repping @AliceCooper (whose house I purchased 12 years later!), The Beastie Boys @beastieboysstory and a few other acts. Jonny generously gave novice me my first job in entertainment — allowing me to start a division within the agency so I could book comedians on the college circuit. This was a big deal to me because Jonny was already a big music industry legend and I was eating carrots to survive — until I turned orange. Literally.

Looking at this photo from Brian, I reflected on those years: How Jonny continued to dominate, repping Lou Reed, Blondie, Michael Bolton, George Clinton, Billy Idol, Meat Loaf, the Allman Brothers, Cyndi Lauper, Erasure, Peter Gabriel, Van Halen and Yaz. I stuck to my comedy roots, ultimately moving onto another agency, working with Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld, Adam Sandler & other comedians.

While, my day yesterday had some rough spots, the kindness from another within this community totally changed my groove. I was reminded of all those years ago and the paths that our lives take. I thought about the ups, downs & all arounds between 1986 when I was 25 years old and today. I reflected about all I’ve been through, which was a lot. I remembered that as long as you hang on and fight for you right to party — life will probably turn out OK.
