I have discovered that expectations about any situation, person or myself, can be a way of avoiding the reality of what is.

Expectations are all about assumptions and leaving things to chance. They are promises of possibilities someday, that are not necessarily based on substance. Often, I find that if I am in expectation-mode, my thoughts have shifted to some future event that is out of my control. At their worst, my expectations can become premeditated resentments that steal my happiness today.

In the present, lots of choices can be made, but not if time is spent dreaming about future expectations. I realize that ideally I must act without expectation.

At every stage of life, dreams and visions for the future can be guides for setting a course, but realities materialize with action. While none of us can predict the future, peace begins and disappointments end when we lose our expectations. Today I intend to expect more from myself than from others. That gives me a big project. How about you?
