Eccentricity is defined as unconventional and slightly strange behavior, while strange means unsettling and hard to understand. I say eccentricity is an important spice of life.

Perceived eccentricities in another depend on our individual persuasions. Bowties or suits might be eccentric to one inclined towards tattoos or a mohawk, and vice versa. Any aspect of the full range of creative expression could be deemed “strange,” by it’s literal definition simply because any differences from our personal norms can be hard to comprehend.

Yet artistic, mystifying, marvelous, offbeat, atypical, fantastic, perplexing displays of expression make day-to-day living interesting and refreshing.

Imagine a world where everyone shared their hidden colorful eccentricity free of judgement. If we each allowed ourselves the latitude to show off our inner feathers like those male peacocks that boldly strut their stuff. Greater acceptance of our differences could cause more smiles and laughter as more unusual is embraced.

Appreciating eccentricity in others, is a step towards giving ourselves greater freedom as well. How do you or can you try to express your personal brand of eccentricity?
