Cool weather often makes people excited. Until they realize it brings unwanted friends into their homes. According to the Fox News article Rats and mice move indoors for fall and winter: See most infested cities” mice and other rodents invade an estimated 21 million homes in the US each fall. Ew. And it gets grosser. Indoor pests could trigger allergies and respiratory issues. In the article, Mike Bentley, Director of Education and Training for the National Pest Management Association, says, “Mice, in particular, are the biggest culprits of this. And house mice have two different proteins that they actually shed. One’s in the urine, and another is in the dander of their hair. And mice defecate a couple hundred times a day.” These proteins, he points out, could adversely affect your breathing. Needless to say, you don’t want mice in your house.

If you need help in assessing if you have a mice problem, The Spruce published a great article that shares ways to tell if they are present in your home: rodent droppings, gnaw marks, foul odor, tracks and runways, nests, scratching noises. It is important to find out before you freak out (I know that is hard to do in this situation!), so use this guide to determine if you have a problem.

If you do have mice, DoomBox™ is here to help you. DoomBox ™ is an effective, easy-to-use and easy to clean up enclosed mouse trap. DoomBox™ will “keep the mess with the mouse” meaning once the mouse is in the trap, it is enclosed so the mess (and smell) is contained and can be removed from the premises. It is designed to be reusable but is inexpensive enough that, if you really don’t want to deal with the dead mouse, you can dispose of the whole works. The patented Click-it™ Closure technology is easy to open but is also Certified Child Resistant to keep kids and pets out. You can purchase various size packs of  DoomBox ™ at Lowe’s or at Amazon.

If you don’t have a mice problem… whew! This might be a great opportunity to be proactive and prevent rodents from entering your house. Here are tips from Pest World on how to keep them out that include screening, stripping, trimming and more! It also might be helpful to have a DoomBox on hand just in case one finds their way into your house!

This year, be prepared and welcome the cool weather (get excited!) but not the mice (get DoomBox!).
