Do you have a set checklist of daily routines that support your mental and physical health? For example, every morning I awake earlier than the rest of my household and write. It’s a contemplative, meditative routine that sets the tone for the day. I consistently rise at the same time as research supports this is important for overall mental functioning, regardless of the time we went to sleep. If I need to catch up on sleep, I try to go to bed earlier. I aim to drink 6-10 big glasses of water, two at a time, throughout the day. I try to eat a variety of 5-7+ fruits and veggies daily. I also eat the equivalent of a small handful of nuts—usually in a nut butter, coupled with apples or bananas. I wear a pedometer and aim to walk 10,000+ steps a day: This could be on the street or at my treadmill desk. If I fall short, I tell myself I have to make up the difference the next day. Mostly this then averages out step-wise. At night, I engage with all the blog comments.
Of course like you, I do a variety of other things — work, family, friend, responsibilities, fun, etc — throughout the day, but these are the things I aim to be most consistent with. At night, before going to sleep I mentally check off whether I did all of these which I think are important for longevity and aging well.
I’d love to hear anything that is a part of your daily routine!
