(SP) If you have high blood pressure, there are medically recognized, standard ways to try and improve your cardiovascular health that you have probably heard over and over from your doctor: Exercise, eat healthy, lose weight, limit alcohol, and quit smoking. While these are all important to do — you may be also be thinking If only it could be a piece of cake?! Well…maybe you can occasionally. But — that cake might be better for you IF it included a plant-based nutrient that has been gaining a lot of attention in the health world: cocoa flavanols.
Cocoa flavanols, the plant-based nutrient found in natural cocoa, have the ability to increase nitric oxide levels in the body. While natural cocoa is a superfood, think of nitric oxide as a “super molecule” because of the critical role it plays within the body and the diverse benefits it has. The production of nitric oxide is particularly important to overall cardiovascular health. Catherine Kwik-Uribe, Ph.D., Global R&D Scientific & Regulatory Affairs Director with Mars Symbioscience told The Beet “Nitric oxide relaxes blood vessels to enable the smooth, easy flow of blood to the vital organs, muscles, and tissues where it’s needed most.” This promotes healthy blood pressure levels and allows your heart to perform at its best.
To get that healthy blood flow, consumers are reaching for cocoa flavanols, which are found in CocoaVia™, a heart health supplement that contains 450 mg of cocoa flavanols in every serving (5-20 calories). After 20+ years of scientific research, 150+ scientific papers, and 30+ clinical studies, researchers know that cocoa flavanols are a game-changer for heart health. CocoaVia™ powdered drink mixes come in several great flavors, including dark chocolate, which can be used in a variety of delicious recipes – try it as a healthy alternative to hot cocoa, a mocha coffee, or even in this healthy cake recipe! As if that news was not exciting enough, the research indicates that cocoa flavanols should be consumed daily. Cocoa every day? Yes, please!
