To understand how to be generous, we must first have been allowed to be selfish.  To understand how to be kind, we were likely once mean. To become sympathetic, we likely witnessed or were apathetic. To become disciplined, we have to also embrace the power of impulsiveness in ourselves and others. To appreciate hard work, we have to also know the amazingness of a lazy afternoon.

Opposites are symbiotic. We cannot really know or understand a characteristic without having intimately experienced its opposite.

When we find ourselves calling out and judging certain traits within ourselves and others, its because we haven’t yet been able to really grasp the essential nature of opposites.

Once it is understood, our critical eyes get blurry. We can once again bring our focus back to ourselves.
