Expectations about any situation, person or myself, can be a way of avoiding the reality of what is.

Expectations are all about assumptions and leaving things to chance. They are promises of possibilities someday, that are not necessarily based on substance. Often, if I am in expectation-mode, my thoughts have shifted to some future event that is out of my control. At their worst, my expectations can become premeditated resentments that steal my happiness today.

In the present, lots of choices can be made, but not if time is spent dreaming about future expectations. I must act without expectation.

At every stage of life, dreams and visions for the future can be guides for setting a course, but realities materialize with action. While I cannot predict the future, peace begins and disappointments end when I lose my expectations.

Today I intend to expect more from myself than others. That gives me a big project.
