This holiday season love is actually all around – and so is laughter – in the new, limited-run musical parody of the hit Christmastime classic movie, Love Actually.

The off-Broadway musical, Love Actually? The Unauthorized Musical Parody, gives its spin on the British holiday romcom and tells the tale of nine couples looking for love amidst the backdrop of holiday magic. There’s an affair with a secretary, there’s a guy hitting on his best friend’s wife and yes, the “language” of love is also explored.

Written by Bob and Tobly McSmith, cast members each play multiple characters – there’s only six actors. Standing out is Kayla Catan (Pinkalicious, Fashion Academy; Truffles; and the national tour of Berenstain Bears LIVE!) who plays “Keira and others.” Catan has Keira Knightley’s expressions down pat and watching her live on stage is an extra special treat.  As the movie fans might have guessed, in this parody, the characters’ names are based on the movie actors’ names who played them.

Of course, this wouldn’t be a parody of Love Actually without the famous cue cards – they definitely have a role in this wacky, exuberant, fun show – and audience members can even take pictures with them in the lobby for the ‘gram too.

Brought to you by Right Angle Entertainment, producer of the smash hits The Office! A Musical Parody and Friends! The Musical Parody, Love Actually? The Unauthorized Musical Parody is playing for a limited engagement through January 14 at the Jerry Orbach Theater at The Theater Center, 1627 Broadway.

The creative team features musical direction by Curtis Reynolds, scenic design by Ryan Howell, costume design by Dustin Cross, lighting design by Weston G. Wetzel, and sound design by Matthew Fischer. It is choreographed by Brooke Engen, with music and orchestrations by Basil Winterbottom.

If dances with Sugarplums are starting to make you dizzy with all its sweetness, and the robotic kicks in Rockefeller are too repetitive for your taste, make love your new holiday tradition. Whether you love love the movie, or hate love the movie, Love Actually? The Unauthorized Musical Parody reminds everyone that the best way to get through the holiday season is to laugh – hard.
