In 2012, I sold my communications business after running it for 18 years. I was tired & thought I needed a big change. About three days after the sale closed, I realized what I had needed was a vacation. That said, there have been many other times in my life when I thought I needed a vacation, yet what I wanted was a change.

Life gets busy: Days get filled with all kinds of responsibilities. It is no surprise we might sometimes feel like we’re running on a wheel and can’t seem to get off. Add day-to-day routines like laundry, cooking meals, chauffeuring others, coupled with the daily news? Life can feel exhausting!

When it all starts to build up, we might think we need a vacation to escape it all. But guess what? Upon our return, it’s quite likely that blissful feeling of well-being will be obliterated the minute we land back home.

This is the very reason why you might like to consider the idea that “Change is as good as a good rest.” • While change can be stressful, it’s helpful to consider how a little change might help when we start feeling stressed, tired, overwhelmed or bored. Our changes don’t have to be momentous – but they could be educational, interesting, challenging in different ways and also fun.

Each of us must determine how to enhance our lives in ways that make our limited time on Earth fulfilling and meaningful. Easy-to-incorporate-activities-slipped-into-our-day-to-day-life hold the potential to add exciting elements that when coupled with our fundamental commitments make us feel whole and complete.

I can’t tell you what will make your life more exciting. But there is something and you know it. Now it’s time to take the risk and try it. For me, along with all the responsibilities I have to my work and my family, I challenge myself with writing daily, staying fit, and keeping this conversation going. All of them have kept me sane these past two years when I’ve believed so many unnecessary forces have compounded to make us feel crazy, isolated and, frankly, sad.

Find the balance between all the elements that reflect the importance & priorities of your life and you’ll be experiencing greater happiness.
